If you read about us in the “about us” tab of our website, you’ll know we are very
involved with two wonderful rescue organizations. I created this page on our website to
provide you with up to date information about what is going on in the pet world and also
to give you more information about the rescue organizations we work with. If you have
any questions about these organizations, please let us know and we’ll answer your
questions or if we don’t know the answer, we’ll put you in touch with someone who does!
PetHaven of Minnesota: http://www.pethavenmn.org/
PetHaven of Minnesota is 501(c)3 non-profit organization and the best rescue groups in
Minnesota! We are not kidding about this. We have tried volunteering for several
organizations and we have found that PetHaven is the most organized and well run
organization with two clear missions. The first mission is to help place homeless animals
into new forever homes. The second mission is to help decrease euthanizing and the
overpopulation problem by offering a low spay/neuter program to people who can't afford
to pay the whole cost. Pethaven is run in a unique way (though it is becoming more
popular with other rescue organizations). Instead of have a facility where they keep the
available dogs and cats, they place these animals in volunteer foster homes. Fosters
parents bring their foster pets to two pet fairs a month in hopes of getting the animal
adopted. These pet fairs are usually held at several different PetCo locations. Also,
sometimes fosters will let potential adopters come to their house to meet the animal,
which is called an out of house adoption. All animals are up to date on shots,
spayed/neutered, microchipped, and feline leukemia/FIV tested. If you want to contribute
or volunteer for a wonderful organization, definitely consider PetHaven!
RAGOM (Retrieve a Golden of Minnesota): http://www.ragom.org
This is also a good non-profit organization. As the name implies, it is a rescue
organization for the golden retriever breed. The organization takes in a lot of dogs from
puppy mills and works towards bringing awareness to the public of how horrible puppy
mills are. While we won’t rave on and on like we did with PetHaven, we will say that given
the size of the organization, it is run decently. They definitely work hard towards making
sure golden retrievers in bad situations get out of that situation pronto. They work the
same way PetHaven does where they place dogs into foster homes until a new forever
home is found. If they can’t find a foster home for a dog, they place the dog into boarding
until a foster home is found. For more information about RAGOM, check out their website!
How to grade your dog’s food:
Many of us don’t realize what we are feeding our dogs and how it
compares to the nutrients they need. This is a great reference to see
where your dog’s food ranks with other foods. I received this from
RAGOM. It is something they give to people when they do a home visit.
It is a tool to make you aware of how different foods matter.
